I was a student in 2024 or have unused tuition amounts to claim
If you were a student in 2024 and you’ve entered your tuition tax certificate (such as a T2202, TL11A, TL11C, or an RL-8 slip) on the Smart Search page in the H&R Block's tax software, the tuition tax credit amount you can claim this year is automatically calculated. You can then:
- Claim the federal and provincial tuition tax credit calculated for you
- Carry forward any unused federal and provincial tuition tax credit or
- Transfer any unused federal and provincial tuition tax credit amount to a family member
You can also claim or enter any of the following on your return by adding the Tuition exam fees & student loans topic on the Tax Topics page under the Credits & deductions tab:
- Tuition amounts that you’ve carried forward from a previous year
- Interest paid on government student loan
- Scholarship, grant, or bursary amounts that wasn’t reported on a slip (T4A or RL-1 slip)
- Additional provincial tax credits for recent graduates:
