My CRA account is locked. What should I do?

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has recently revoked My Account user IDs and passwords for 800,000 Canadians. The CRA has locked these accounts as a precautionary measure after it learned that some CRA My Account user IDs and passwords may have been obtained by unauthorized third parties through external sources (such as email phishing scams). This is not due to a breach of the CRA’s online systems.

Here’s what you can do if your account is locked:

  • Use a different login method to sign into your My Account – you can use a different CRA user ID and password (if you had one set up), your banking login, or your BC Services card.

  • Create a new CRA user ID – complete the first step of registration to get limited access to your My Account. The CRA will mail you a security code to give you full access to My Account. When you receive your security code, follow these steps to complete your registration.

NoteYou can still file your return online and apply for emergency benefits while you wait for your security code.

If none of the options above are available to you, try signing into your My Account after March 22, 2021. If after this date you’re still unable to access your account, call the CRA.
