Warning: Carrying charges require T691
You’ll see the following warning message in H&R Block’s 2024 tax software if you reported carrying charges and/or interest expenses, but didn’t complete the applicable section(s) on the Alternative minimum tax (T691) page:
You reported carrying charges and/or interest expenses, so you might need to complete the Alternative minimum tax (T691) page to calculate whether you have to pay minimum tax. On that page, you might need to complete these sections: Rental and leasing property, Tax shelters, limited partnerships, and non-active partners, or Resource property and flow-through shares. You can find the T691 page in the OTHER section in the CREDITS AND DEDUCTIONS tab. [warning].
How do I fix this?
Complete one or more of these sections, as applicable, on the Alternative minimum tax (T691) page to determine if you need to pay minimum tax:
-
Rental and leasing property
-
Tax shelters, limited partnerships, and non-active partners
-
Resource property and flow-through shares
If completing those sections does not clear the warning, you can safely ignore it.
Note: The Alternative minimum tax (T691) page is on the Credits & deductions tab under the Other section.
